1212km US Rekord mit Janus C (festes Fahrwerk!)

Doug Haluza, 41, of Centerport, NY, and John D. Godfrey, 54, of Pittsburgh, PA, claimed two U.S. national records for multiplace gliders: 750 km Out and Return Speed at 109 km/h (68 mi/h) and Free Three Turnpoint Distance at 1136 km (706 mi). Total flight distance registered in the AeroKurier Online Contest (OLC) was 1212 km (753 mi), or 1127 handicapped points, making Doug's flight currently the best in the world this year in the pure glider class. They flew Doug’s 1979 Schempp-Hirth Janus C two-place glider for 10h 47m non-stop. Doug is a Soaring Society of America Master Cross-Country Flight Instructor, and this flight was conducted under the SSA Master Instructor Cross Country Program. John currently holds a 500km FAI diamond, and is working towards a 1000km FAI Diploma. Doug had set one previous U.S. National Record for Free Out and Return Distance in 1997, and is a member and past president of the Long Island Soaring Association. [olc-Fluginfo]
